Prevailing status of youth today is very alarming to its extent. Through the eyes of government and concerned individuals, this must engender solutions. Many issues have been dramatically considered to aid the ever worsening problems of youth and have been held on the table as main concerns of local government programs. In virtue of the City Mayor Honorable Ronnel C. Rivera, the City Population Management Office headed the launching of the 1st GenSan Youth Convergence at GenSan Gym, Lagao last April 9, 2014 to gather all the youth in GenSan together in an event to solidify the welfare, involvement, leadership, discipline, and morale of youth and to address their status qou

City Mayor Hon. Ronnel C. Rivera seized the honor to officially start the convergence together with the invited guests and speakers namely Usec. Tomasito Villarin Political Adviser, Office of the President, Usec. Leon Flores III Office of the National Youth Commission, Hon. Shandee Llido-Pestaño that were caught by camera lenses and pens of media. 1st GenSan Youth Convergence was attended by leaders of all school-based, high schools and colleges/universities, and non school based organizations ranging to 3,000 up to 4,000 youth in GenSan as well as the Sport Divisions of 26 barangays of the city participated for the formal opening of GenSan Summerfest formed part of the program.
Several activities were conducted regarding on the issues involved all the youth that were best discussed to participants to educate more and generate awareness about Teenage Pregnancy,Peer Pressure, Drug Abuse Prevention, Life Skills, Stress Management, Ethical Leadership, HIV/AIDS, Responsible Parenthood, Responsible Parenthood and Fertility Management, Anti-Discrimination, Boys and Girls Relationship,Gender/Violence against Women and Children, Basic Mountaineering Skills, and Human Sexuality in accordance with youth development in line with the goal 'to empower, to inspire, to inform.'
The event grabbed the whole attraction and support of NGOs, different private sectors and active citizens of GenSan under the leadership of Local Government Unit to establish a strong hold of youth participation. Headed by CPMO, in its great effort, this event will never be successfully ended with the help of CPMO-Tourism Council, City Mayor's Office -Sports Division and Youth Affairs, Development Office, Shine SOCSKSARGEN, FPOP, DepEd, Liga ng mga Barangay, Department of Health, ACLC, KCCMall, Robinsons Mall, Print Factory, City Art/C-Air, Community Development, SP Committee on Children and Youth, and Gay Llido.
1st GenSan Youth Convergence was the huge youth gathering in the history of SOCSKSARGEN. The purpose of this event, in bringing all the youth together, was to spark the light of hope that they remain the hope of our motherland. Of the entire issues all the youth are involved, they deserve the venerated place to be the catalyst of change for the development, progress, prosperity and not the reason why there are problems in the society, that they must be bound with friendship, unity, honor, and love. If it's now, we can see truly the better place we have been long dreaming because of our hope bearer, the youth.
City government of General Santos spearheaded by CPMO, in partnership with Voice Of The Youth Network and every school-based and non school based organization in GenSan, shall continue the legacy to empower, inspire and inform through their unwavering initiative in transmitting the support of local government unit for the development of the society, for rebuilding the nation and for a blinding brightness of the future of all the youth in GenSan.
